The launch ceremony for lunar sample reception and research work was held at Beijing Institute of Technology

Ever since the carrying out of the theme education of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Beijing Institute of Technology has insisted on combining theme education with promoting the "Double First Class" construction, drawing inspiration and strength from the Party's innovative theory, closely focusing on the primary task of high-quality development, strengthening theoretical learning to guide development practice, deepening investigation and research to solve development problems, and effectively transforming the achievements of theme education into a strong driving force for promoting the construction of world-class universities.

On April 24th, as the 8th space day approached, the launch ceremony for the lunar sample reception and research work of "Touching the Moon and Returning, Treading on Dreams" was held at the Liangxiang Campus of Beijing Institute of Technology. The ceremony was attended by Zeng Guangshang, an adviser to the Science and Technology Committee of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the Science and Technology Committee of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, and the chief expert of the 18th Research Institute, Rui Xiaoting, an academician of Nanjing University of Technology, Yang Mengfei, the chief designer of Chang'e 5, Duan Wenhui, an academician of Tsinghua University, Li Xianhua, an academician of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhu Meifang, an academician of Donghua University, responsible persons for relevant work at the Lunar Exploration and Aerospace Engineering Center of the National Space Administration, Beihang University, Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Jun, secretary of the Party Committee of BIT and academician of the CAE Member, Li Zhenjian, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of BIT, and heads of all colleges/academies and relevant departments.

Zhang Jun, on behalf of BIT, expressed sincere gratitude to the National Space Administration's Lunar Exploration and Aerospace Engineering Center and the attending guests who care about and support the development of BIT. Zhang Jun said that as the first university of science and engineering founded by the CPC, Beijing Institute of Technology has persisted in educating people for the Party and the country since its establishment more than 80 years ago, and has made important contributions to scientific and technological innovation, national development and social civilization and progress. In recent years, Beijing Institute of Technology has bravely undertaken a new mission of building a power, achieving a non-linear leap in the main indicators of educational development. The ecological environment of being clean and upright, united and harmonious, green and efficient, and pursuing excellence is further consolidated, and the pace of building the "Double First Class" is steadily accelerating.

Zhang Jun emphasized that the approval of the fifth batch of 500 milligrams of lunar samples by Beijing Institute of Technology is of great significance. BIT will gather wisdom and strength with relevant units to jointly build three "high-rise buildings" for scientific research, talent cultivation, and exchange and cooperation, further promoting the spirit of lunar exploration and making new and greater contributions to the development and utilization of lunar resources and the peaceful use of space by humans; Sincere cooperation with sister universities and research institutions, strengthening the feedback and support of high-level scientific research for the cultivation of high-quality and top-notch innovative talents, and continuously promoting the sustainable development of China's aerospace industry; Efforts will be made to create an open and innovative ecosystem with global competitiveness, and to contribute more scientific and technological strength to promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Zhang Jun stated that this year marks the beginning of the comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and also coincides with the promotion of high standards for theme education throughout BIT. Based on the new development stage, BIT will adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guideline, stick to the orientation of socialist education, implementing the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating talents, focusing on serving the "four aspects", effectively transforming the achievements of thematic education into a strong driving force for promoting the construction of world-class universities, adhering to unity and coordination, green and efficient, and striving to explore a new situation of high-quality leapfrog development, to make new and greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the enhancement of human well-being.

Ge Ping, Deputy Director of the Lunar Exploration and Aerospace Engineering Center of the National Space Administration, introduced the basic situation of lunar surface sampling for the Lunar Exploration project "Chang'e-5".

Professor Shen Jun's team from the School of Mechanical Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology will jointly carry out research work with the Key Laboratory of Space Manufacturing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and will analyze the physicochemical characteristics of lunar soil samples to provide performance parameter indicators for the scientific preparation of lunar soil and the preparation method of lunar soil formation, promote the in-depth research of lunar soil additive manufacturing technology and the demonstration of load scheme, and provide technical reserves and support conditions for future tasks related to unmanned lunar exploration, manned lunar landing, and the construction of lunar research stations in China.
