First Time to Apply for Residence Permit
An X1 visa provided by a Chinese embassy or Consular mission stationed outside of china is considered a one-entry visa, an X1 visa is only valid for 30 days after entering China, students must go to the Office of International Students and apply for a student residence permit within 30 days of their arrival to China.
Documents needed to process a Residence Permit for the first time:
1. Passport��with valid visa��
2. Physical Examination Certificate verified by China's Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
3. Application form of Residence Permit with seal of international student center.
4. JW201/JW202 form (Only if your visa is not X1)
5. Admission Notice from BIT (Original)
6. One visa size photo (White background)
7. Copies of Valid Temporary Residence.
Note: When processing a residence permit for the first time students need to go to the Beijing International Travel Health Care Center (Haidian Branch) to have their physical examination done or have a valid physical examination form validated, after 5 days students may pick up their
Residence Permit Extension and Alteration
According to the Exit and Entry Administrative Laws of the People's Republic of China, international students who wish to apply for a Residence Permit Extension must do so 30 days before their valid Residence Permit expires. The following documents are necessary to apply for a Residence Permit Extension:
1. Passport (with valid residence permit)
2. Copy of valid temporary residence registration form
3. One visa size photo (white background)
4. Students transferring from other schools must provide a certificate of consummation of studies or a transfer certificate issued within 10 days from the applying date.
Any changes to a valid residence permit must be notified to the Office of International Students (For example a passport change, new residence address, change schools, etc.). And taken to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau exit-entry Administration in order to carry out all necessary procedures. If not your stay in China will be considered illegal.
