On the afternoon of November 8, Hu Haiyan, a professor of mechanics at the Beijing Institute of Technology, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Developing World, was invited to give a lecture on "Future Technology" with the theme of "Engineering Science Towards Artificial Intelligence" for the students of XUTELI School / School of Future Technologies. More than 90 students participated in the course.

Academician Hu first sorted out the germination, formation and development of engineering science from the perspective of the development history of human civilization, compared the changes in engineering science education goals and training models in different periods, and aroused students' strong interest in the development of engineering science.

Next, Academician Hu introduced the research methods of engineering science, shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence, and helped students form a preliminary system model of scientific research methods.

He emphasized that in the study of engineering science, we should pay attention to the methodology of engineering science, be good at summarizing the characteristics of engineering science, and integrate multiple disciplines. When it comes to artificial intelligence, ask two questions to spark discussion among the students in the field: Do the details make or break the difference? Can machines surpass humans? The students spoke actively, and while expounding their views, they used the examples around them to demonstrate, which was highly praised by Academician Hu. He proposed that artificial intelligence is strongly promoting the modelling, analysis and design of high-end equipment systems, enabling them to have autonomous learning and control capabilities, but there are still many problems in improving the robustness of the model, dealing with critical points, and describing multi-mode motion, and encourage everyone to study.

Finally, Academician Hu answered in detail the questions raised by the students on model-based engineering science research. The 2022 student representatives of the School of Future Technologies sent flowers to Academician Hu to express their sincere gratitude.
