The General Situation of the Community Group in Beijing Institute of Technology

Community Group is considered as one of the most important sections of the Youth League of BIT (abbreviation for Beijing Institute of Technology). These years it has done a great job in cultivating students' interests and hobbies, improving comprehensive quality, helping student with their growth and breeding the campus culture. BIT's community group developed very fast in virtue of the firm support of the Party Committee, including establishing school's community union in an earlier time, joining Beijing college community union and became a standing director in 2004, which provide a larger platform for communication and development of community groups in our school.
Till now, we have 65 student associations, including 8 theoretic assn.(account for 12.7%), 6 science assn.(account for 6.3%), 5 commonweal assn.(account for 6.3%), 25 associations about literature and art(accounts for 34.9%), 21 sports assn.(account for 30.1%) and also 6 pre-operational associations. Our community groups mainly covered all types of student associations. Many of them have good prestige among Beijing, like the famous Jinggong speech association, Lvmeng environmental & resource protection union and Yan He star union of volunteers, which are known as the most influential associations in BIT. We also have association such as badminton association and diabolo association, which bear the palm in various competitions. And don't forget the Xiangqin assn. and independent music club, they have showed up in the famous Strawberry Music Festival and presented fantastic performance.

There is a variety of activities held by these associations. Most of the activities are successful and hugely popular with the students. For example, "Challenging the Host" set up an arena for students to display their personalities and abilities. "Earth Hour" and "Week of Environmental Culture" held by lvmeng taught students to do more in the environmental protection. "Diabolo and Chinese Culture Festival" popularized the ancient culture of China. These interesting activities are all well-planned and arranged.
Our school will try our best to perform the function of "self-education, self-management, self-service" that community groups have to assist, encourage and guide the development of our associations, contribute our body and soul to the cultivation of the qualified college students under the background which call for all-round development education.
