On the happy occasion of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, great achievement with concerted efforts is to be accomplished. The autumn of 2020 will witness the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Founding of BIT. Let us extend our sincere greetings and high respect to the leaders at all levels, alumni at home and abroad and friends from all walks of life who have long cared about and supported the construction and development of BIT.

　　“To remain true to our original aspiration in 80 eventful years”. BIT, formerly known as Academy of Natural Sciences that is inscribed by Chairman Mao, is the first university of science and engineering founded by the Communist Party of China. Proletarian revolutionaries including Li Fuchun, Xu Teli, and Li Qiang successively served as the main leaders. Founded in Yan’an, BIT once moved to the North China and finally settled in Beijing. Several times of relocations and changes of names and difficulties encountered can never stop the development and growth of her. BIT sticks to the original intention and the dedication to our country, forges ahead and strives for success from the time to cultivate scientific and technological talents for the war and saving our country in Yan’an, the period to spare no efforts to build the first national defense industrial university in New China and become the “cradle of red national defense engineers”, to the stage of pursuing the forefront of world science and technology development, satisfying the needs of national industrialization, informatization and national defense modernization and taking root in China to build a world-class university since the reform and opening up, which has formed a unique spiritual temperament and cultural core with the red gene of “Yan’an root and military spirit” and has composed a new chapter of the founding of science and engineering higher education by the Communist Party of China.

　　“To keep our mission firmly in mind with 80 years’ ode which never ends”. Nowadays, BIT has become a high-level research university with the integration of “ground-information-aerospace” and the coordinated development of engineering, science, management and arts. In these 80 years, BITers always adhere to the school motto of “developing virtues for seeking truth and pursuing study for perfecting practice”, the school spirit of “unity, diligence, truth-seeking, and innovation”, and the study style of “seeking truth from facts and not being opinionated”, which has formed the spiritual pursuit of loving the Party, serving the country, striving for self-improvement, seeking knowledge and innovation, and climbing the summit bravely; in these 80 years, BIT has cultivated over 300,000 graduates including talents of science and education, pioneers of the era and pillars of country governance. Generations of BITers are firmly committed to the key areas of national needs and bravely undertake the mission of the era; in these 80 years, persisting in meeting the major strategic needs of the country and forging ahead in the development of science and technology in the world, BIT comes together through thick and thin with our Party and country, and goes hand in hand with the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which has made important contributions to the progress of science and technology, national development and social civilization.

　　“To make brilliant achievements on the basis of the 80 years’ fruitful experience and accumulation”. The 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Founding of BIT is not only an important milestone of the development, but also a new starting point to strive to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics in this new era. Taking the 80th anniversary as an opportunity, BIT will hold a series of academic, cultural and commemorative activities, look back upon and summarize the development achievements of these years, formulate a blueprint plan for future development, inspire the feelings of patriotism and the pride of the school, and gather the strengths of this new era. Now, the preparatory work for the Anniversary have been officially launched. We are looking forward to the return of our alumni to our alma mater to share their friendship and development together, and sincerely inviting people from all walks of life who are interested in supporting the development of the school to participate in the celebration activities and join hands to create a better tomorrow for our BIT!
