On August 31, with the theme of “hand in hand across the Taiwan Straits to cultivate outstanding talents” the 2022 Higher Education across the Taiwan Straits (Beijing) Summit Forum, an activitity of Youth Summit across the Taiwan Straits activities, was held at BIT, focusing on the important role of colleges and universities in serving the industry and society, exploring the normal mechanism of cooperation and exchange between colleges and universities across the Taiwan Straits, and reaching the consensus of practice and education, with far-reaching intentions. Long Teng, President of BIT and academician of the CAE, and relevant responsible persons of the Exchange Bureau of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education, the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People’s Government, and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission attended the forum. About 120 presidents, experts and scholars from more than 120 colleges and universities across the Taiwan Straits also participated. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Wang Bo, Vice-president of BIT.

2022 Higher Education across the Taiwan Straits (Beijing) Summit Forum was held physically and online, including the main forum and six parallel forums. Huo Guangfeng, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People’s Government, announced the official opening of the forum.

Sun Qijun, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, delivered a speech, stressing that: “it is the common historical responsibility of the higher education circles across the Taiwan Straits to inheritage the Chinese soul and cultivate outstanding talents who are responsible for the great task of national rejuvenation. Colleges and universities across the Taiwan Straits should seize the opportunity, forge ahead, integrate development, and work together to create a beautiful future for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wei Yiming, Vice-president of BIT, said in his speech that colleges and universities should focus on the new stage and characteristics of national economic and social development, serve the major strategic needs of the country, and build world-class colleges and universities.

Guo Dongming, President of Dalian University of Technology, Wang Bo, Vice-president of BIT, Jiang Jishan, President of Chienkuo Technology University, Yang Chongguang, Vice-president of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, You Kunming, Vice-president of Chung Hua University, Guan Zhongliang, Vice-president of Beijing Jiaotong University, and An Jiangying, President of Beijing Polytechnic College, etc., gave wonderful reports on the hot issues in the field of higher education across the Taiwan Straits, such as the practice of talent cultivation, scientific research and discipline construction of various colleges and universities.

The forum also held the Integrated Circuit and Electronic Design Invitational Competition Award Ceremony of the 2022 “Chip Creates the Future” for college students across the Taiwan Straits hosted by Chinese Institute of Electronics and organized by BIT.

During the parallel forums, 53 experts and scholars from colleges and universities across the Taiwan Straits conducted in-depth discussions on energy transformation and low-carbon development, scientific and technological innovation and digital economy, industry university cooperation and collaborative education, innovation drive and practice education, professional transformation and vocational education.

2022 Higher Education across the Taiwan Straits (Beijing) Summit Forum is not only an important platform for exchange and dialogue among colleagues and universities in higher education circles across the Taiwan Straits, but also a connecting link for deepening the friendship of cooperation among colleagues and universities, which aims to give play to the cultural identity and educational role of education in exchanges across the Taiwan Straits, jointly promote the integration and development of higher education in both sides, and light up a better future for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with the light of education.
