In February 2021, the American Collegiate Mathematical Modeling Competition
was held online due to the COVID-2019.
Pan Jiong and his classmates could not communicate face-to-face.

He established a difference equation to comprehensively analyze the decomposition process of litter
and wood chip fibers in different ecosystems under fungal activity,
which provided innovative ideas for theoretical biology research.

After the competition,
Pan Jiong sorted out the ideas and content of the article in more detail,
and published the relevant results as the first author in the English journal "The UMAP Journal".
