On October 23, Prof. Long Teng from BIT was elected Corresponding Academician of IAA (International Academy of Astronautics).

IAA, a non-governmental international academic organization initiated by the world famous scientist Theodore von Kármán, was founded in Stockholm, Sweden on August 16, 1960, which aims to promote human peace and social development by aerospace technologies. Now, IAA is composed of experts who have made outstanding contributions to aerospace technology and related fields, including the Department of Basic Science, the Department of Engineering Science, the Department of Life Science and the Department of Social Science. New academicians are elected by the regular academicians of this organization. Regular academician has his life tenure, and corresponding academician will have his opportunity to be the regular in two years.

In 2020, 54 aerospace experts are elected as corresponding academicians and 59 are appointed as regular academicians, who come from 28 different countries, including China, the US, Russia, Italy, Japan, France and Germany. 18 experts from China (Taiwan included) had their successful election this year, including 1 corresponding academician and 2 regular academicians of the Department of Life Science, 4 corresponding academicians and 3 regular academicians of the Department of Engineering Science, and 2 corresponding academicians and 6 regular academicians of the Department of Social Science.

On November 27, Prof. Long Teng with other 5 Chinese experts were elected as foreign academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, which is announced on its official website.

Russian Academy of Engineering, who grows out of Academy of Engineering of the Soviet Union, is a public organization in Russia founded on May 13, 1990. In the following 30 years, it has established 45 regional academies and 32 departments, and there are in total 1950 academicians are elected, including heroes of the Soviet Union, heroes of the Russian Federation, regular and corresponding academicians Russian Academy of Sciences, winners of National Awards of the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation, outstanding science and technology workers of the Russian Federation, presidents of colleges and universities and head of large scientific research institutions. Currently, Russian Academy of Engineering is composed of over 1350 regular and corresponding academicians as well as more than 100 foreign academicians.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the election meeting this year was held in two stages on October 29 and November 19 remotely. In the meeting, the President of Russian Academy of Engineering reviewed the experience since it founded, and leaders from regional academies and professional committees made their speeches. Finally, 38 new academicians, including 14 regular academicians, 24 corresponding academicians as well as 12 foreign academicians had a successful election.

Prof. Long Teng is longtime engaged in aerospace, radar and real-time information processing researches. His successfully election of the Corresponding Academician of IAA and Foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Engineering marks that the scientific research work of BIT in the fields of aerospace, radar and real-time information processing has been further recognized by the international academic community, which is one of the landmark achievements of BIT to build a world-class university.

The profile of Prof. Long Teng:

Long Teng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee and Vice-president of BIT, is the professor and doctoral supervisor of the discipline of Information and Communication Engineering, whose research direction is New System Radar and Real-time Information Processing.

He has been elected as the Corresponding Academician of IAA, the Foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow and Member of Chinese Institute of Electronics.

He has also been awarded National Innovation Award, Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Advancement Award, IEEE TCCPS (IEEE Technical Committee on Cyber-Physical Systems) Distinguished Leadership Award, and Beijing Ten Outstanding Youth, etc..

Now, Prof. Long is the Vice-director of CICC (Chinese Institute of Command and Control), the Executive Director of CIE (Chinese Institute of Electronics), the Executive Director of CIS (China Instrument and Control Society), the Chairman of Signal Processing Branch of CIE and CIS, and the Chairman of the Working Committee on International Cooperation of CIE.

Besides, he is also the Member of the 7th and 8th Discipline Evaluation Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor and the winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Once he was the Chief Technical Officer of National Basic research Program (973 Program) and the Chief Expert of National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program).

Long has published 3 academic writings, more than 130 SCI; has been authorized over 50 invention patents; and has won 2 second prizes of STIA (State Technological Invention Award) and 8 provincial and ministerial prizes.

In addition, Prof. Long has established IET International Radar Conference and IEEE International Conference on Signal Information and Data Processing. He once had written editorial on IET Radar, Sonar, and Navigation Journal as the first Chinese scholar, and has been invited to give reports at several international conferences.
