The Wentian experimental module will focus on life science and biotechnology research

The space application system has deployed scientific experimental facilities such as life ecological experimental cabinets, biotechnology experimental cabinets, scientific glove boxes and cryogenic storage cabinets, and variable gravity scientific experimental cabinets in the Wentian experimental module.

Among them, the life ecology experiment cabinet uses various types of biological individuals, such as plant seeds, seedlings, spiders and small animals as experimental samples to carry out spatial growth experiments of animals and plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana, nematodes, fruit flies, zebrafish, etc., to reveal the influence of microgravity on the growth, development and metabolism of individual organisms, to promote human understanding of the nature of life phenomena, providing a scientific basis for the assessment and protection against on-orbit radiation damage of astronauts.

The biotechnology experimental cabinet in the Wentian experimental module takes tissue, cells, biochemical molecules and other biological samples as the research object, and mainly carries out experiments such as cell tissue culture, spatial protein crystallization and analysis, and spatial biomechanics, to explore the law and mechanism of cell growth and differentiation under microgravity environment, so as to provide a theoretical basis for human health and reproductive development. Explore the impact of gravity on the origin and evolution of life, and make breakthrough discoveries in high-efficiency protein/peptide drug nanocrystal bone biotechnology, which plays an important role in guiding the research and application of tissue engineering and biomedicine.


The Wentian experimental modulealso needs to serve as the functional backup of the Tianhe core cabin

The Wentian experimental module is 17.9 meters long, with a maximum diameter of 4.2 meters. The temperature in the module is 24 degrees Celsius, and the noise in the sleeping area is lower than 50 decibels. The Wentian experimental module has the ability of unified management and control, and has the ability to rendezvous, dock, and berth with the core module. In order to improve the reliability of the space station and ensure the safety of astronauts, the functional backup for Wentian experimental module has been performed. When the core module fails, it can be switched to the Wentian experimental module.

As the general dispatcher of the space station mission in Beijing, Le Tian is very aware of the importance of shouting "Beijing understands" every time.In order to successfully complete the mission, he issues a command password to each system, saying "Beijing understands", he often has to practice hundreds or thousands of times.

Being the general dispatcher in Beijing in the "Wentian experimental module" mission is not Letian's "first show". In fact, since 2016, Le Tian has successively served as the Beijing dispatcher for Tianhe core module, Tianzhou 2, Tianzhou 3, Tianzhou 4 and 3 astronaut outing activities. The sound of "Beijing understands" embodies Le Tian's deep love for the aerospace industry. Year after year, day after day, for more than a dozen years, Le Tian silently has persevered, strived and dedicated in the aerospace front line, and has practiced the aerospace dream of BITers with persistence and love.

Talking about BIT's training,Le Tian said that his four-year study at BIT has cultivated his good learning ability and scientific literacy of exploring truth and seeking truth. "The most unforgettable experience during my BIT days was my experience of participating in the mass parade for the 60th anniversary of the National Day in 2009. At that time, I participated in the parade team organized by BIT. We were trained at Liangxiang Campus throughout the summer vacation. As the backbone of the team, I led everyone to walk in step and perform various exercise training every day. The training process was very hard. But when my classmates and I strode through Tiananmen Square on National Day, a sense of pride and mission rose from the bottom of my heart. That spontaneous sense of pride and mission is unforgettable to this day. After work, whenever I encounter difficulties and setbacks, this kind of strength will motivate me to keep striving forward. "

As the chief designer of the "Wentian" experimental module, Zhang Qiao admitted thatthe research and development of "Wentian" is very difficult, and its axial length exceeds any flight section of the International Space Station. "This is a very challenging task. My team members and I gave full play to the work spirit of being able to endure hardships and fight hard, overcome difficulties, struggled hard,and resolutely gnawed on this 'hard bone'. How to design and build the module body, how to complete the task faster and better, and countless exchanges and discussions with team members have left us with precious memories. "

From the undergraduate admission in 2003 to the doctoral graduation in 2012, for nine years,whether it is the cultivation of scientific research ability or the shaping of willpower, BIT has given Zhang Qiao a broad space to grow into a talent. During his Ph.D., Zhang Qiao often continued working by lamplight for an experimental phenomenon, a logical relationship, and a piece of program code, and made innovative breakthroughs in research topics. "The first-class education platform of my alma mater, the strong atmosphere of innovation and the careful guidance of my mentor, Professor Wang Ningfei, have enabled me to have good scientific research capabilities and laid a solid foundation for my future work," said Zhang Qiao.


The successful launch of the Wentian experimental module means

Bright flame tail, soaring into the sky

"3,2,1... Launch!" The Long March 5B Yao-III carrier rocket took off, and the beautiful "flame tail" cut through the sky and rushed to the sky. In order to ensure the smooth flame guide,the key technology developed by the research team of BIT has greatly reduced the length of the core area of the gas jet and effectively reduced the impact of the gas flow on the launch vehicle. It has been widely used to "weave" a new generation of "flame tail" for Chinese rockets.

Connecting the world through live broadcast

The Changzheng rockets flies into the air and goes straight into the universe. Every launch affects the hearts of hundreds of millions of people. To understand the state of the rocket after the launch, the video on the rocket body is essential. In order to ensure the smooth presentation of live images,the high-efficiency video encoding and decoding technologydeveloped by the research team of BIT provides technical support for the live broadcast of rocket body images. Since the technology was first applied to the Long March rocket in 2005, it has continued to provide technical support and services for the launch of the "Shenzhou" series of spacecraft, transmitting precious images of the rocket's flight dynamics back to the ground in real time.

Precise berthing, space navigation

The vast universe is boundless, the Wentian experimental module will rendezvous and dock with the space station assembly in the universe to complete the "I" shaped configuration. This rendezvous and docking will be one between the two spacecrafts with the largest tonnage in China at present. Faced with such a big scene,the rendezvous and docking microwave radar signal processor and microwave transponder signal processordeveloped by the BIT research team will provide them with precise navigation.
