On January 5, BIT held the 2023 meeting on the principles of winter semester (winter vacation) to discuss the new path of high-quality connotative development. All school leaders were presented at the meeting, and the academic committee, the heads of academic departments and schools, representatives of professors in charge of disciplines, and heads of relevant departments also attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Jun, the Secretary of the Party Committee, BIT.

At the meeting, combined with the development of the discipline construction, Li Zhenjian, the Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Vice President, BIT, in-depth analyzed the influential factors of discipline development and the direction of future efforts. The responsible professors of each first-level discipline reported the discipline construction in turn, and Zhang Jun and Long Teng, the the President, BIT commented on each discipline one by one.

Long Teng pointed out that, first, we should be firm and confident, have an objective understanding of the current achievements, situations and development goals of the school and various disciplines, base ourselves on the development reality, take the initiative to think and act diligently, concentrate on promoting key work, and go all out to seek new progress and development; second, we should make plans ahead, make good use of the “baton” for the development of the school, adhere to the cooperation of the whole staff and organizational operation, grasp the initiative of work, and comprehensively promote education and teaching, scientific research, and talent team construction, etc.; third, we should adhere to the goal orientation, conduct in-depth research on the development environment and internal motivation, formulate a scientific and achievable and decomposable goal system, pay special attention to education and teaching work, achieve research and deployment at the beginning of the year, fully promote in the middle of the year, carry out summary at the end of the year, and steadily promote all work; fourth, we should establish the idea of sustainable development under the constraint of resource boundaries, focus on resource bottlenecks such as personnel, assets and funds, continue to optimize the composition of human resources, make good use of all kinds of educational resources such as non-local research institutes, improve the “dual core” operation pattern of Zhongguancun Campus and Liangxiang Campus, and accelerate the high-quality connotation development of the school.

Zhang Jun stressed that since the establishment of our school, BIT has experienced three important stages of development: establishing, prospering and strengthening, and has fostered a campus atmosphere that is clean and upright, united and harmonious, pursuing excellence, and suitable for learning and teaching. At present, BIT is in one of the best development periods in history. Facing the strategic opportunities given by the new era, we should seize the momentum and jointly promote the construction of “double first-class” to a new level. First, we should learn deeply and thoroughly, and work hard to prosper the school. We should fully implement the decisions and arrangements of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, take discipline construction as the starting point, and plan the strategic layout of education, science and technology, and talents in a “trinity” scientific way, jump out of the traditional development laws, and explore a new paradigm of high-quality development; Second, we should always talk about reviewing and revising. We should have a correct understanding of the current international and domestic situation, firmly grasp the strategic opportunity period, accurately analyze problems, scientifically set goals, reform and innovate in the “changing situation”, turn the crisis into an opportunity, and achieve a higher level of ideological unity, political unity, and unity of action; Third, we should be good at planning and winning. We should use strategic thinking, systematic thinking, historical thinking, dialectical thinking, people-oriented thinking, development thinking and global thinking to plan. We should not only grasp the development trend of long-term changes, but also maintain development endurance, and continuously superimpose pulse new kinetic energy; Fourth, we should work hard. Education and teaching should be based on teaching skills, teaching first, green and high-quality, and with excellent guidance. Scientific and technological innovation should further strengthen the combination of excellence and innovation, and carry out scientific research with planning, organization and quality. The talent team should promote each other in terms of introduction and education, determine people according to their posts, select people according to their needs, and employ people according to their abilities, and continue to deepen the reform of the system and mechanism. The discipline construction should achieve the intersection of strong and weak, the integration of strong and weak, and the combination of strong and weak, and vigorously promote the collaborative construction of “Excellent Engineering, High-quality Science, Perfect Arts, and Outstanding Medical and Engineering”.
