Fifteen years ago, Liangxiang Campus welcomed her first students; now it has become a sea of vigorous youth. Vast fertile land nurtures the seedlings green as the sun grows the trees.

Fifteen years later, Liangxiang is now a land of quality education of BIT!

Fifteen years ago, North Lake was just a pond, and there was nothing but bare land between Danfeng and Boya.

Fifteen years later, 700,000 square meters of various buildings have been erected on more than 2,000 acres of land. Liangxiang Campus has already built the cornerstone for BIT's determination to be first-class. Looking back to 2000, at the turn of the century, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal People's Government signed an agreement to jointly build Beijing Institute of Technology, marking BIT’s place in Project 985. Since then, in the journey of building a world-class university, the Liangxiang Campus has been the cornerstone of BIT.

In 2002, the first shovelful of dirt of Liangxiang Campus was pried up in the middle of a field by BITers.

In 2005, the construction of Liangxiang Campus was fully launched.

On September 17, 2007, 3300 undergraduate students jointly opened the new campus.

In 2011, the North Lake Project of Liangxiang Campus was awarded the gold medal of "Excellent Landscaping Project", the highest award by Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture.

In 2015, Liangxiang Campus started the construction of East Campus.

In 2019, the Cultural and Sports Center of Liangxiang Campus was put into use.

In 2020, the opening of the Wencui Buildings and the Gantang Yuan Blocks marked the official opening of Liangxiang East Campus.

In August 2022, aiming at the new stage of high-quality development and the actual needs of accelerating the implementation of Double First-Class Initiative, the Party Committee of the university made a comprehensive plan and strategic layout.In accordance with the principle of authorities first and all institutions due are moved, the main leaders of the university took the lead in relocating 15 management institutions to the Liangxiang Campus, of which 11 institutions were relocated as a whole. The relocation of the Liangxiang Campus has strongly enhanced the ability of serving teachers and students, the grassroots and the development of the campus, which has really formed a new momentum to drive the development of the Liangxiang Campus to serve the first-class development andbuild a new pattern of "dual-core development" of the two campuses, which is an important milestone in the history of the university.

After 15 years, Liangxiang Campus has grown into the "second growth pole" of the school's high-quality development, building "dual cores" and "dual wings" for the school's new journey of Double First-Class Initiative implementation, and providing strong power for the school to accelerate the formation of an integrated school pattern with scientific layout of disciplines and majors, integration of teaching and research functions, and sharing of high-quality educational resources.

Physical Science "Research Center"

In recent years, based on the Liangxiang campus, the physics discipline of the university has been developing rapidly, with the Quantum Physics Experimental Center, the "High Energy Matter" Frontier Science Center and other discipline clusters continuously producing many awards, including the second and third prizes of the National Natural Science. In February 2022, physics was included in the second round of Double First-class Initiative implementation list; On August 31 of the same year, the innovative research results were published in the regular issue of Nature.

In recent years, adhering to the guidance of major national strategic needs and the forefront of world science and technology, the Institute has continuously expanded and improved its scientific and technological innovation capacity, strengthened top-level planning, and focused on refining major scientific problems from engineering applications. It has made fruitful achievements in the research and development of national major instruments and equipment, thermal protection of hypersonic vehicles, etc. Meanwhile, it has actively planned major projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has been approved for scientific research funding of more than 100 million yuan for four consecutive years since 2018.

As the most representative public experimental platform in Liangxiang, Analysis& Testing Center has been providing high-level, high-quality and diverse analysis testing services for more than 10 first-grade disciplines including materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics, which has been powerful technical support for a number of national key research projects and the output of research results.
