Key Laboratory of Cluster Science (BIT),Ministry of Education

　　The Key Laboratory of Cluster Science (Beijing Institute of Technology), Ministry of Education, was approved and established in 2009.

　　This Laboratory is built on the basis of the construction of the Doctor Station of Chemistry (first-level discipline), and the Doctor Stations of Theoretical Physics and Condensed Matter Physics (second-level discipline), and its main research directions are: (1) chemistry and physics of oxygen clusters; (2) functional clusters; and (3) atomic and molecular cluster theory.

　　Among the 39 teachers and researchers (22 professors and 17 associate professors) of the Laboratory, there are 3 distinguished professors of the Yangtze River Scholars (Li Zesheng, Yang Guoyu and Qu Liangti), 4 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Yang Guoyu, Tao Yun, Qu Liangti and Wang Bo), a youth expert of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts (Wang Bo), a member of the Short-term Recruitment Program of Global Experts (Omar M. Yaghi), 3 talents of Supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education (Zhang Yunhong, Cao Minhua and Qu Liangti), a winner of Beijing Teaching Master (Huang Rudan), and 4 experimental technicians.

　　With the goal of cultivating innovative talents, taking important scientific issues in the field of national defense science and technology as the traction, aiming at perusing the forefront of international development, focusing on dealing with the chemical and physics issues in the fields of materials, energy, resources and environment in this century, and the major scientific issues in national economic construction and high-tech development, and according to the scientific characteristics of clusters, the Laboratory is determined to build a first-class academic team with strong innovation ability and distinctive national defense features to conduct cross-disciplinary research, achieve high-level results, promote national economic development, and enhance national defense science and technology strength.

　　In addition, the Laboratory will strive to reach the level of applying for national key disciplines / key laboratories by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan, and to be on the list of national key disciplines / key laboratories by the end of the 13th Five Year Plan.
