Engineering Research Center of Fire-Safe Materials and Technology (BIT), Ministry of Education

　　The Engineering Research Center of Fire-Safe Materials and Technology (Beijing Institute of Technology), Ministry of Education, was approved and established in 2009, headquartered in Zhongguancun Campus with branch in Xishan experimental area.

　　The main research directions of this Research Center are: (1) environmental friendly flame retardant; (2) flame retardant polymer materials and technology; and (3) fireproof materials and technology.

　　The positioning of the Research Center: attention is attached to solve the common technical problems of environmental protection, low cost and high comprehensive performance requirements, and to conduct researches on engineering technology. Besides, the Research Center improve its research on synthesis, modification and application of green, environment-friendly and multi-functional new flame retardant; polymer nano-inserted flame retardant and its composite structure, performance and flame retardant mechanism; exploration of new approaches for halogen-free flame-retardant materials and optimization of formulation; and rheological behavior and processing technology of halogen-free polymer flame retardant materials with unique characteristics and advantages, which enjoys an international fame and a domestic leading position.

　　There are about 60 faculties (full-time, part-time and guest or visiting faculties) and over 100 sets of main equipment for flame retardant synthesis, plastic rubber processing and combustion performance testing the Research Center. With the goals of building a domestic leading and international advanced level of new green flame retardant material industry innovation base and developing an influential innovative research team of flame retardant materials at home and abroad, the Research Center is determined to undertake the major researches and development tasks of national, local and enterprise flame retardant materials and to harvest a batch of patents and technological achievements with independent intellectual property rights every year, so as to promote the industrialization.
