Although physical systems evolve in continuous time, almost all modern controllers are implemented using digital processors (e.g., MCUs, DSPs, and PLCs) and operate in discrete time based on sampled measurements from sensors. Sampled-data control theory focuses on the continuous/discrete-time discrepancy of different signals in a control system and is developed to ensure the performance of the closed-loop system in continuous time by systematically designing discrete-time sampled-data controllers.

Despite of the great advances in sampled-data control theory, recent developments in sensing and communication technology have offered new opportunities to further enhance the performance of advanced sampled-data control systems, and a number of fundamental problems still need to be solved in this area, including event-triggered control, estimation and learning, cyber-security and privacy issues, and AI-enabled sampled-data systems. The purpose of this special issue is to focus on the recent achievements and future challenges on the theory, methods, and applications of advanced sampled-data control systems.

Prospective authors are invited to submit research papers focusing on (but not restricted to) the following topics:

● Modeling and identification techniques for sampled-data systems

Time- and event-triggered sampled-data control theory

Event-based signal processing and machine learning

Security and privacy of sampled-data control systems

Advanced alarm systems and data analytics

Engineering applications of sampled-data systems (e.g., robotics, motion control, process engineering, smart buildings, and biomedical engineering)

All submissions will be peer reviewed according to the Journal of Beijing Institute of Technology guidelines. The contributions should be original and should have not been published or submitted elsewhere.

Submit your manuscript on https://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/jbit. Prospective authors should consult the sitehttp://journal.bit.edu.cn/jbitfor guidelines and information on paper submission.

Submission deadline: March 30, 2022; Publication date: August 31, 2022
