On the morning of September 24, on the morning of September 24, the naming ceremony of "Beiligong" and a series of activities for the 82nd anniversary of Beijing Institute of Technology were held at the Liangxiang Campus of Beijing Institute of Technology.

At the ceremony,it was announced that the asteroid 1997 GQ27, which was approved by the International Astronomical Union

and obtained the international permanent number 9442,

was officially named

" Beiligong".

Chang Jin read out the asteroid naming bulletin and naming certificate, and awarded the certificate, bulletin and orbital map bronze medal to Beijing Institute of Technology. Zou Hu introduced the discovery process and orbital operation of Beiligong. Academician Zhang Jun, secretary of the party committee of BIT, together with the hero astronauts and colleagues in the scientific community who were invited to the ceremony, jointly unveiled the bronze medal for the naming of the "Beiligong".

On behalf of BIT, Zhang Jun expressed his heartfelt thanks to the National Astronomical Observatory team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who discovered the "Beiligong" and the guests who cared about and supported the development of BIT. Zhang Jun said that Beijing Institute of Technology, as the first science and engineering university founded by the Communist Party of China, has insisted on educating people for the Party and the country since its establishment 82 years ago, and has created a large number of "national key weapons", providing a steady stream of talents and intellectual support for socialist modernization. In recent years, BIT has continued to accelerate the construction of "Double First-Class", set a "new benchmark" for high-quality training, achieved "new leap" through high-level innovation, forming a "new gathering" of high-level talents, reaching a "new height" in open education, and creating a "new atmosphere" in an all-round way. The "fast track" of high-quality development has stepped into a more challenging "new stage" of high-quality development. On the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the founding of the school, which is also a key moment to welcome the victory of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the naming of "Beiligong" is of great significance. BIT was born in Yan'an in 1940.

It is the first science and engineering university founded by the Communist Party of China. It has been one of the key universities in the country since the founding of the People's Republic of China,

andhas created many "firsts"

in the history of science and technology in New China.

The name of "Beiligong" is to commemorate the development of thefirst large-scale planetarium in New China by BIT and its contribution to the pre-research of the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST).

"Beiligong" located between Jupiter and Mars, with an orbital period of 4.18 years, was discovered on April 2, 1997, at the Xinglong Observatory by the Schmidt CCD asteroid project team of the National Astronomical Observatory

The asteroid's name "Beiligong"

has a special meaning


One is the international permanent number "9442" with the first two digits "94",which means Beijing Institute of Technology was born in Yan'an in 1940; the second is the last two digits "42" of the international permanent number "9442", and the date of asteroid discovery on April 2, 1997.On April 2, 1988, Beijing Institute of Technology was renamed on April 2, 1988.
