　　Saturday (September 19, 2020) was marked as the 80th anniversary of the founding of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). The anniversary conference was grandly held in the East Stadium on Zhongguancun Campus to celebrate this big occasion.

　　On this day, BIT was burst with joy and full of vigour and vitality. Before the celebration, many VIPs have visited BIT. Chinese vice-premier Sun Chunlan, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (CPCCC), has praised the education achievements of BIT in the past 8 decades, expressed her earnest expectation for BIT and issued corresponding instructions; Secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee Cai Qi, also member of Political Bureau of CPCCC, has inspected BIT, paid a visit to faculty representatives and offered his instructions; Alumnus Zeng Qinghong, former member of Political Bureau of CPCCC and vice-president, and his wife, Alumna Wang Fengqing, have sent a letter of congratulation in which they first looked back at the past days with affection, and then encouraged faculty and students to forge ahead; Xiao Yaqing, Minister and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), has taken a special trip to visit the students and faculty and congratulate the 80th anniversary of BIT.

　　At 9 a.m., the anniversary conference began with the solemn national anthem. The conference was live streamed on more than 10 platforms, such as CCTV News client, People Daily client and BIT official website.

Zhao Changlu, Party Secretary of BIT, hosted the conference. On behalf of BIT, he extended a warm welcome to all leaders and guests present at the conference, kind regards to all alumni across the globe as well as all students and faculty, and also gratitude to people of all social sectors who provide support to the development of the university.

Co., Ltd., Chongqing Qin'an M & E Plc., Suzhou TZTEK Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai I2finance Technology Co.,Ltd., Shanghai Tongmin, Anhui Ensan Foundation, Sichuan Qianyi Composite Materials Co., Ltd. and other enterprises; the people's government of Danyang City, Jiangsu Province, Putian City, Fujian Province and other local governments; the couples of Du Jiangtao and Hao Hong, Bing Yangao and Tang Xie, and Su Gang and Fan Gangjuan, Fei Zhenyong and other alumni contributed to the donation. In addition, team of Academician Mao Erke, who implemented the transformation of scientific and technological achievements through Beijing Science and Technology Leike, and team of Academician Sun Fengchun, who implemented the transformation of scientific and technological achievements through BIT Huachuang, and other school teachers actively supported the construction and development of BIT, donated to the university. The donation totaled 1.36 billion yuan.

Zhang Jun, President of BIT, delivered a speech entitled "leading the trend and creating the future" on behalf of the school. He said that in the course of running a school over the past 80 years, BIT has persisted in following the instructions and guidance of the Party, inherited the red gene of "Yan'an root and the soul of military industry," and formed a unique spiritual temperament and cultural core. It has walked out of a "red road of educating people" in which the Communist Party of China founded and led higher education with Chinese characteristics, the "road of strengthening the army and serving the country" that is committed to national defense and service strategy, and the "road of innovation and development" that is open, inclusive and cross-integrated. He said that on the new starting point and new journey, BIT will, in accordance with the "three steps" strategic goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, carefully cultivate first-class talents, sincerely make first-class contributions, and strive to build a first-class university. It will also stride forward towards the goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and continue to make achievements.

　　Wang Xiaomo, who graduated from the Department of Radio Engineering in 1961 and won the Highest Science and Technology Award, spoke on behalf of the alumni. He suggested that under the influence and cultivation of the red gene of "Yan'an Root and the Soul of military Industry" of his alma mater, the "Red National Defense engineer" has become a portrayal of his life. He expects the younger generation of BIT to cherish their time at school, study hard, achieve all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor, and wish his alma mater to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics as soon as possible.

　　Jiang Lan, a professor from School of Mechanical Engineering, BIT, spoke as a teacher representative. He fondly recalled his study and work experience at BIT and expressed his pride as a teacher of BIT.
He hoped that his alma mater would continue to write legends and compose magnificent chapters in the new journey of building the world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

　　Li Fumeng, an undergraduate of the class of 2018 from Qiushi College, spoke as a student representative. She said that as a student of BIT, she should strengthen her ideals and beliefs, develop excellent skills, have the courage to innovate and create, and be determined to work hard, so as to contribute to a better future for the university and to the development of the cause of the party and the country.

　　Hao Ping delivered a speech as a representative of domestic colleges and universities. He reviewed the history of BIT sharing a common destiny with the motherland and the people, advancing with the times and society, and forging ahead with Peking University. He expects that the two universities will establish closer partnerships in various fields and make new contributions to China's higher education and scientific and technological innovation.

　　Sadovnichii, President of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Russia, delivered a video address on behalf of global cooperation universities. He mentioned that BIT is a steady partner of MSU. Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, the first Russian-Chinese cooperative university founded by the two universities, has made important achievements in personnel training and platform construction. Sadovnichii expected the two universities could deepen their cooperation and make new contributions to the in-depth development of educational cooperation between the two countries.

　　Wang Ning said in his speech that BIT is a university with a glorious history of hard-working and education. In its 80 years of schooling, it has overcome great difficulties and devoted in cultivating talents for the Party and the country. It has made outstanding contributions to the cause of national defense, the development of national economy and the economic and social development of the capital. Wang said that Beijing will, as always, support the reform and development of BIT. He hoped that BIT would adhere to socialist orientation in university administration while persisting in the Party's leadership throughout the whole process; practice the fundamental task of establishing moral integrity in cultivation and fulfill its personnel training task under the highest standard; serve the "four centers" function construction of Beijing based on the strategic positioning of capital city and to make new and greater contributions to the realization of the "two centenary" goals and the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

　　Zhong Denghua said in his speech that since it was set up in Yan’an in 1940, BIT has always adhered to the correct direction of teaching and management, educating talents for the Party and country, inheriting the red gene, carrying forward the fine traditions, and making remarkable contributions to the construction of the New China, especially to China’s scientific and technological innovation and national defense modernization. At present, in face of the development of the Party and country, the need for developing higher education and scientific knowledge as well as cultivating excellent talents is more urgent than ever before. He hoped that BIT would firmly grasp the socialist orientation in university administration, fully implement the fundamental task of establishing moral integrity in cultivation, comprehensively enhance the ability to serve and strengthen the country. He hoped that these would accelerate the construction of BIT into a global tier-1 university with Chinese characteristics so as to make new and greater contributions to the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and to realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

　　Wang Jiangping emphasized in his speech that the instructions of vice-premier Sun Chunlan fully recognized the education achievements of BIT in the past 8 decades and gave explicit requirements for the following developments. These requirements, then, needed to be studied and carried out carefully as soon as possible. Since the world is witnessing major changes unseen in a century, he also said, accelerating sci-tech innovation is more urgent for turning China into a modern socialist country as well as realizing the national rejuvenation. In this context, BIT should be dedicated to the Party and the country, spare no efforts to strive forward, seek truth and perfect practice, cultivate talents with education on the history of revolution, pursue excellence and stay committed to innovation. Besides, BIT should stay committed to the guideline of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, remain royal to the full leadership of the Party, and then stride ahead towards the aim of being the first-class university by insisting on fostering integrity and promoting rounded development of people as the fundamental task, serving the urgent needs of national strategies and deepening revolution and innovation rooted in the motherland.

　　Zhao Changlu said, facing the major changes unseen in a century and standing at the period in which the timeframes of the two centenary goals converge, the students and faculty of BIT, with the overall strategy in mind, will be committed to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, develop greater consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment, and foster stronger confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and resolutely uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. Also, they will adhere to the socialist direction of schools, implement the fundamental task of fostering integrity and promoting rounded development of people, inherit the revolution spirits that are devoted to the military development with their origin in Yan’an. Based on these, more contribution can be made to comprehensively drive the development of BIT in the aspects of cause and connotation, features and quality, to accelerate the pace for bringing BIT among the world first-class universities and to build a moderately prosperous society in all aspects and realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
