Introduction to School of Automation of BIT

  The predecessor of School of Automation is Department of Automatic Control which was established in 1960. The relevant major was first opened in 1953 and Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT) is the pioneer of automatic control teaching and research in the Chinese society. After developed for over 60 years, School of Automation has obvious feature and superiority in combining theoretical research and engineering practice, discipline-crossing and in-depth civil-military integrating, has fostered tens of thousands of talents with high qualities, and plays an important role in the development of the national economy.  

  School of Automation has now about 122 full-time teachers, including 30 professors, 63 associate professors and 29 lecturers. The teaching team includes two academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, three Yangtze River Scholar, two Distinguished Young Scholars, one teacher with program for Thousand Talents, one National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" leading talents, two teachers with Millions of Talents Project in the New Century by National Ministry of Personnel, two Middle-aged and Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions to Technology and Industry for National Defense, two Outstanding Youth, two teachers with program for The National Youth Talent Support, one Youth Yangtze River Scholar, two teachers with program for Thousand Youth Talents, ten New Century Excellent talents, one with Outstanding Middle-aged and Young Experts of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry, four Beijing Prestigious Teachers, three with Youth Talent Promotion program. School of Automation currently has one Innovation Research group of the National Funding Committee, three Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Teams of the Ministry of Education, one National Defense Science and Technology Innovation team, one Research Innovation Teaching team of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

  School of Automation has First-level Discipline in Control Science and Engineering, the discipline was selected into the list of "Double First-class" construction disciplines of the Ministry of Education in 2017, and was honored with Class A discipline by the Ministry of Education in the fourth round of discipline evaluation. Graduates and PhD candidates can be recruited in six disciplines which are Control Science and Engineering, Navigation Guidance and Control, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems, Intelligent Information Processing and Control, Detection Technology and Automatic Equipment, Electrical Engineering and Control. Undergraduate students major in Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation can continue to pursue master degree or doctorate degree in these disciplines. The Automation program was entitled to be the Program with Distinctive Features by the Ministry of Education, got China Engineering Education Certification (6 years), and the International Automation program was established in 2011; the Electrical Engineering and Automation program was honored with Outstanding Engineers Plans by the Ministry of Education, got China Engineering Education Certification (6 years).

  School of Automation currently has “Laboratory of Intelligent Control and Decision of Complex Systems” which is the State Key Lab, “Navigation Guidance and Control” which is the Engineering Centre of ministry of education, Automation Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Beijing Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center and "Servo Motion System Drive and Control" which is the key Lab of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. At the same time, school of Automation has built Bionic Robot Mechanism, Perception and Control Laboratory, International Joint Research Laboratory of Biomimetic Robots and Systems (BIT) with Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Unmanned Vehicle Technology with Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Experimental Teaching Demonstrating Center of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Weapon System Virtual Simulation.

  The school adheres to the policy of deepening innovation practice, the proportion of students participating in competitions in various disciplines at home and abroad exceeds 60%, the average students number of awarded at or above the provincial level annually is over 100. In recent years, students from the school have won one special prize, four first prizes, one second prices in the “Challenge Cup" National Science and Technology College of Extra-curricular Academic Competition, and also have won many national or international competition awards such as electronic designs, unmanned vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, intelligent cars, mathematical modeling and the International Invention Exhibition of Geneva. In the past eight years, School of Automation has won the first place of overall team scores for seven times in the "Century Cup" Students Science and Technology Competition.

  The employment rate of undergraduate students from the school is above 98%, among which, the advanced study rate is higher than 68%, graduates who continue their education all attend well-known universities at home and abroad, and the postgraduate employment rate nearly reach 100%. The graduates have various employment options, they mostly work in the fields of research and design units related to automation and information technology, government agencies, science and technology enterprises, manufacturing units and institutions.

  The school has a great scientific research strength, has won 8 national level science and technology awards, 20 provincial and ministerial awards include Natural Science Award, Technology Invention Award and Science and Technology Progress Award, has hold more than 50 National Natural Science Foundation projects include Key Basic Research Project, Major Project, Major Scientific Instruments and International Cooperation, Distinguished Young Scholars, Excellent Young Scholars, etc. As the chief, School of Automation takes over two “973” projects, two National Key Research and Development Project, undertake over 200 advanced research, key models and technology cooperation,every year the school accesses to about 150 million research funding.

Automation  

Program Introduction  

  The program takes automatic control theory as the main theoretical basis, electronic technology, computer information technology, sensors and detection technology are used as the main technical means to control various automatic devices and systems. Automation is a comprehensive discipline combines computer hardware and software, machinery and electronics, components and systems, operation and manufacturing, and is the integration of control, computer, electrical, and machinery. The program not only emphasizes a solid theoretical foundation students supposed to require, but also emphasizes students' practical skills, and pays attention to strengthening the cultivation of students' innovative ability in engineering technology.

Program Introduction  

  The program fosters senior engineering and technical talents in electrical automation who master the basic knowledge of natural sciences, engineering technology, basic theoretical and technical knowledge of electrical engineering, have the ability to analyze and solve practical engineering and technical problems, continually master new knowledge, new skills and creatively apply them to work, have the ability to engage in design, manufacturing, research, development, operation, and technical management of power systems, power electronics, motors and appliances, power transmission and control, with basic concepts and methods of international communication and cooperation, teamwork spirit, social responsibility and leadership capabilities.
