Introduction to School of Computer Science and Technology of BIT

  Founded in 1958, the School of Computers of BIT is one of the earliest universities in the country to establish a computer major. In April 2018, School of Computer Science, School of Software, School of Network Science and Technology Research merged to form a new School of Computer Science and Technology. The School has trained accumulative total more than 15,000 talents of all kinds for the country. ESI of computer science discipline ranks in the top 1% of the world and the discipline ranks in the top 10% of the country.

  School of Computer Science and Technology has now 198 Faculty staff, including 149 full-time teachers, among whom include thirty-four senior teachers and sixty deputy senior teachers; forty-three doctoral supervisors and 128 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees. The School has an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; a double employed academician; two distinguished Professors of Chang Jiang Scholars Program; three winners of National Fund for Outstanding Young People; an expert group member of National Key Research and Development Project, two leading talents of science and technology innovation of the 10,000 Talents Program; two young people selected in the 1,000 Talents Program; two winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young People; a famous teacher in Beijing; nine people in New Century Excellent Tale, Ministry of Education.

  The School has “Computer Science and Technology” Doctoral Authorization of First-level Discipline and Post-doctoral Research Station, and is the first to be awarded “Cyberspace Security” Doctoral Authorization of First-level Discipline. The first-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology includes four discipline directions: Software Theory and Big Bata, Media Computing and Intelligent Sensing, Language Intelligence and Social Computing, Computer System and Network. The first-level discipline of Cyberspace Security includes three discipline directions: Network Attack, Defense and Counter Technology; Network Information Analysis and Decision; Cryptography and Application Security. The School has many provincial/ministry key disciplines, such as Beijing Key Discipline of Computer Application Technology, National Defense Key Discipline of Computer Software and Theory, Beijing Key Interdiscipline of Digital Acting and Simulation Technology and so on; it also has two state-level scientific research platforms, National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Software and National Engineering Laboratory for Key Technology of Network Grade Protection (co-construction). In the meantime it has provincial/ ministry scientific research platforms, such as Beijing Laboratory of Intelligent Information Technology; Beijing Engineering Research Center of High Volume Language Information Processing and Cloud Computing Application; Key Laboratory of Information Intelligent Processing and Content Security, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Beijing Key Laboratory of Digital Performance and Simulation Technology; Beijing Key Laboratory of Software Security Technology; National Defense Science and Technology Engineering Center (Network Information Security Engineering Center) and so on. The School also has national, provincial/ministry teaching platforms, such as National Virtual Simulation Experiment Center of Computer Education, Beijing Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Beijing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Digital Media Technology and so on. Six joint laboratories have been established with international academic research institutions such as Altera Corporation, Texas Instruments, Xilinx, The University of Hong Kong and University of Sydney Technology.

  In the past five years, the School has taken the lead in undertaking one major project and two key projects of National Natural Science Foundation, one project of National Fund for Outstanding Young People and two projects of National Key Research and Development. Nearly 300 million yuan is spent on the campus, of which 50% comes from National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Research and Development Program, National Key Basic Research Program and National High Technology Research and Development Program. It has also won two National Science and Technology Progress Awards, fourteen provincial/ministry science and technology awards, including Beijing Science and Technology Award; Technology Innovation Award, Ministry of Education; National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award and so on. Besides, more than 200 national invention patents have been granted. School of Computer Science and Technology has developed certain advantages and influences in Language Information Processing, Cloud Computing and Big Data, Computer Vision, Digital Performance and Simulation and Software Security, and has made a number of innovative achievements, which strongly supports the core business if relevant military departments, national defense industry enterprises and state security agency in our country, as well as the creation rehearsal and security assurance of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, the parade and other large-scale activities, producing significant social and economic benefits. In 2017, ESI of computer science discipline in our Institute ranked in the top 1% of the world, and computer science and technology discipline ranked in the top 10% of the country.
