Introduction to School of Foreign Languages of BIT

　　After the Russian Teaching and Research Group in 1952, the Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Section in 1960, the Departmentof Foreign Languages in 1984, the School of Foreign Languages, BIT, was established in 2006. The School owns the Departmentof English, the Departmentof Japanese, the Departmentof German, the Departmentof Spanish, Undergraduate English Teaching and Research Section, Postgraduate English Teaching and Research Section, Ph.D. English Teaching and Research Section and Foreign Language Training Center (the training results for German issued by this Center are accepted by German government and universities). Besides, the School also undertakes the teaching tasks of public foreign languages for undergraduates and postgraduates of BIT, cultivates undergraduates and postgraduates in foreign languages, and carries out foreign language teaching and research.

　　Taking advantage of the superior discipline resources of science, engineering and management of BIT, following the rules of foreign language professionals cultivation, and aiming to satisfy the requirements of the society for the quality of foreign language talents in 21th Century, the School of Foreign Languages strengthens its major construction and discipline construction, adheres to the principle of “student-oriented”, respects student personality, and make an integration of professional education, quality training and personalized development, so as to cultivate high-quality foreign language talents with the humanistic and scientific spirit, the political integrity and professional competence, and the integration of Chinese and western thoughts.

　　There are currently 500 undergraduates and postgraduates in the School. For undergraduates, four majors (English, Japanese, German and Spanish) can be chosen to their further study. In addition, the School has master-degree programs of Foreign Language and Literature (first-level discipline, which includes three second-level disciplines of English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature and German Language and Literature), MTI and MTCSOL.

　　The School of Foreign Languages has good teaching and research conditions, modern teaching facilities, advanced language laboratories with rich books and materials, and has invited more than 10 experts and professors to give lessons and lectures for the students.

　　Among 108 faculties with high quality of the School, there are 8 professors, 33 associate professors, 34 doctors, 4 Ph.D. candidates, 2 talents of Supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education, 5 young teachers of “Young Talent Program” of Beijing universities, a member of the College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, a member of the German Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 2 members of the CET 4 and CET6 Examination Committee of the Ministry of Education, a master teacher of Beijing, a managing director of China Formal Linguistics Research Association, a managing director of China Japanese Education Association and a managing director of English Teaching for Postgraduates in Beijing.

　　The professors and teachers in the School of Foreign Languages have made outstanding achievements in their teaching and research: 300 papers in important academic journals or conferences at home and abroad including 10 SSCI and A&HCIpapers; 20 scientific research projects above provincial and ministerial level such as the projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, Humanities and Social Sciences fund of the Ministry of Education and Beijing Social Science Fund; and 200 monographs, textbooks and reference books (a series textbooks count among the textbooks for the national “10th Five Year Plan” and “11th Five Year Plan”, excellent textbooks of Beijing and recommended textbooks by the Ministry of Education). Moreover, the School has won the first prize of 2005 National Teaching Achievement Award, 2017 Beijing Teaching Achievement Award and other provincial and ministerial awards. The School is now a model base for college English teaching reform of the Ministry of Education, whose results of teaching reform is at the forefront in China. College English Through Watching, Listening & Speaking , one of the School’s excellent course, has been awarded Beijing Excellent Course and National Excellent Course successively.
