Beginning in political theory courses, developing in the humanities and social sciences, flourishing in the construction of fine humanity, and thriving in the cultivation of first-class talents, School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT), adhering to the fundamental educational concept of "enhance morality, foster talents", has always been pioneering and brilliance in the cultivation of the builders and successors of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics.

　　The school has a long history and rich heritage. From the ideological and political education of the Yanan Academy of Natural Sciences during the War of Resistance Against Japan, to the department of politics and education after the founding of the People ’s Republic of China, to the Ministry of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences since the Economic Reform and open up, it has followed the ever-changing pace of new China and the school's hard-working development path, it has gone from Yanan to Beijing, going through hardships and going bright. In 1999, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was formally established. The school has always shouldered the important mission of humanities and social sciences construction and humanities cultivation. It has nurtured and developed pedagogy, economics, philosophy, natural science, literature, law, linguistics and other disciplines, laying the foundation stone for the construction of a first-class university.

　　The school has complete hardware facilities and equipment, first-rate teaching management services, advanced talent cultivation concepts, and strong teaching force. At present, 88 faculty members work in the school. Among the 68 full-time teachers, there are 14 professors, 30 associate professors, 2 of whom are members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, and 2 foreign professors. The school adheres to the first-rate orientation and international perspective. The international exchange of undergraduates is at the forefront of the university. It has reached strategic cooperation with academic research and international exchanges with more than 50 well-known overseas universities, including the University of Cambridge, the Australian National University, and 2 overseas institutions.

　　After a long period of accumulation, the school has achieved remarkable achievements in education and teaching. It has formed a multi-disciplinary and multi-level school system that spans multiple disciplines and professional fields such as education, economics, and literature. It now has undergraduates in economics, social work and other specialties, a first-level of doctoral degree authorization point in education, a first-level of master's degree authorization degree in education and theoretical economics, a master's degree authorization degree in education, and a new post-doctoral mobile station in education. The University's Humanistic Quality Teaching and Research Department, Graduate Education Research Center, and University of China Institute of Higher Education's Quality Education Research Branch Secretariat are located in the school. The school also has a number of research centers such as National Strategic Research Center, Institute of Applied Psychology, and Social Responsibility Research Center. It is an important base for humanities education and professional talents training of BIT.

　　The school aims at the mutual promotion of teaching and scientific research. The results hosted and participated by teachers have won one national teaching achievement award, three Beijing teaching outstanding achievement awards, and three excellent video public courses of the Ministry of Education. On average, the school has been approved 25 off-campus research projects every year, such as National Natural Science Fund, National Social Science Fund, key projects, Humanities and Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education, Beijing Social Science Fund, Beijing Educational Science Planning Project and other external scientific research projects. In the past two years, the school has been approved nearly 10 million yuan of research funds both on and off campus.

　　The school sends more than 200 outstanding graduates to the country and society every year, among which the employment rate of fresh graduates is over 98%, the employment rate of graduate students is 100%, and the rate of students pursuing further study is over 60%. The school encourages students to innovate and apply what they have learned. In the field of academic science, technology and innovation practice, the college students publish more than 100 papers every year, and the core journals account for 22%. In the university's "Shiji Cup" academic science and technology works competition for college students, the school has won the organization award and the winner cup for six consecutive years, and won the “Boya Cup” for five consecutive years with the first prize in humanities and social sciences. The school encourages students to think of the country, serve the society, and make achievements in the new era. Through colorful social practices in summer and winter, students can apply their knowledge, integrate their knowledge with their actions, and their social practice achievements are in the leading position in the university. The summer social practice team of "Tianqiao college student assistant of community director", a brand project of the school, was selected as the team of "double hundred action plan" for the function construction of the "four centers" of Beijing universities and colleges to serve the capital in 2018.
