Ageing population has been an inevitable and serious challenge for both developing and developed countries. Take Japan as an example, those elder than 65 years have occupied more than 28.4% in the society in the year 2020. At the same time, Shanghai in China claimed its ageing population reached 25.9%. On the one hand, one needs to see the increasing economic burdens for governments with the dramatically growing community of the elderly. On the other hand, one has to consider the potential opportunities for research and development in the field of artificial intelligence + internet of things (AIoT), which aims for this huge market, i.e., the ageing population.

To attract more attention from the scientific community of AI, 5G, Big Data, the Information Sciences, and others, we co-organise this special issue entitled “Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things for the Ageing Population”. We hope to provide an open platform for active scientists from both academia and industry to contribute to their experience, insights, and perspectives by leveraging the power of AIoT to help the elderly enjoy an easy and convenient life. Prospective authors are invited to submit research papers focusing on (but not limited to) the following topics:

● AIoT algorithms, approaches, solutions, and platforms for the usage by elderly

●Assisted living for the elderly via machine intelligence

●Daily healthcare for the elderly both physically and mentally

●Early diagnosis of diseases for the elderly via AIoT

●Advanced technologies for smart communities and/or homes of elderly

●Emerging ideas, perspectives, and paradigms for monitoring and treatment of the elderly in real-world scenarios

All submissions will be peer reviewed according to the Journal of Beijing Institute of Technology guidelines. The contributions should be original and should have not been published or submitted elsewhere.
